I laugh about this all the time. All the people screaming that they were betraaaayed by any person who turned out to be biologically female or something, all the while claiming beforehand that noooo they weren't seeing the person any differently and noooo there was no special treatment or favoritism going on at aaaaall that they wouldn't have given to anyone else.

My boyfriend wanted to join a certain female-balanced fandom (Not MLP, obvs), and couldn't understand when I told him that fangirls will want to jump his bones in a predominately female fandom. "They're just being nice!" BECAUSE YOU'RE AN ATTRACTIVE MALE IN A PREDOMINANTLY FEMALE FANDOM.

TL;DR: Predominantly-female fandom goes cuckoo for men in fandom.

I laugh at that too. Same with guys in game fandoms and gamer girls. Whose fault is it that people are treating certain others like a beautiful unicorn? The people doing the treating, obvs.

Exactly this. Why does it make a difference if it's a dude or a middle aged woman or a trans man? You treat them according to what they do and say, not who they are.
