Oh yes I've seen it. If the fandom is pretty dominated by women, then male fans who write slash generally get BNF status pretty easily.

Suddenly very glad I don't publish stuff much, since that would make me feel very awkward.

Albeit I've never seen that treatment, only people complaining about it, but I suspect it's more frequent in the big fandoms I don't touch.
