Zombies, Run!

[personal profile] deadtree 2013-04-06 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I finally bit the bullet and tried this app out and I wanted to say "thank you, Fandom!Secrets!" for being so on about it, because it's amazing and I did nearly TWICE the distance that I normally do on my jogs, thanks to the app (and the nice weather, but still) ♥

I keep thinking about it and have a hard time paying for any app.

I understand-- the price was really what was stopping me for a long time. But it's only $4 right now (half off) and it seems like it's got a lot of content in there for that amount of money.

Yeah the half-off price is awesome.

I love every time there's a secret about it, or when someone thanks this comm for reccing the app. Because it really is one of the best.

I've only done one mission (plus an extended run with the two hilarious djs) and I'm already convinced it's a steal at full price. What a cool app.

So how does it work exactly? I just know there are zombies...and you run.

Basically, it takes a playlist that you've made and intersperses scenes of dialogue between them to set you up on missions. So you'll start each mission with a little snippet over your radio communicator sending you out to accomplish something on behalf of the post-zombie-apocalypse township with whom you've ended up (under mysteriour circumstances).

Then it'll play some of your music. Then another scene. Then music etc. While you run during the music parts you will occasionally pick up supplies which you can later use to build up your base online if you want. There's also an option for occasional zombie attacks - when these happen you'll have to speed up to outrun them or die. (Needs GPS or motion-sensors).

As well as the set missions, there's a radio mode where your playlist is mixed in with broadcasts from a post-zombie-apocalypse radio station. A lot of people find the DJs are particularly cute. The voice acting is great all 'round though. (Mostly British, fwiw.)

Hooray!! I need to use mine again, my discipline didn't last too long. But I'm still interested, and I have only the app to thank.

I'm hoping it will eventually show up on a Free App of the Day.

Cause if the voices annoy me, or I have the glitch issues some people complain about, I will drive myself insane cause I spent money on it.

Hell I'd even take a free lite version to try like a lot of Apps put out.

I just got it a couple weeks ago, am about halfway through, and oh man, it is brilliant. I am just blown away by how good it is. Like, it in no way had to be that good. They could have just thrown some growling and moaning into a normal fitness app and saved themselves the time of developing deep characters, writing intricate plots, and doing some beautiful world building. Plus a good chunk of the missions pass the Bechdel test once the badass ladies are introduced!

Plus I ship Jack and Eugene like burning. They are brilliant!

and they're canon!

exactly! I mean like I said, I just started, but so far it's just so well-done. Much better than I expected!

...and yeah, I'm not gonna lie, I love Jack and Eugene. They are adorable.
