I wish I could that thing in the first part of your comment. My mom is the opposite with finding out anyone she likes is gay. It completely disappoints her, and she's downright hateful of anyone who is.

Anderson Cooper being gay is a well-kept secret from her. Even my dad, who is also non-supportive of gay rights, keeps that nugget of info to himself lest it sour her opinion of tv people.

You don't happen to be missing a sister, by chance? I'm torn between telling mine about Jodie Foster to watch her squirm, because I'm evil like that, and keeping quiet because I listen to enough of her vitriol as it is.

(Regarding what the poster above you said, I've long since given up hope that pointing out 'examples' of gays/minorities/overweight people, in real life or fiction, being actual human beings will get through to her.)

Actually, yes I do happen to be missing a sister, but for completely different reasons (she's abroad at the moment!). The other sister though, she was the one I came out to first because she was the one I figured had the higher chance of hating me (a low chance though imo), and thus would be like ripping a bandaid off really quickly to get it over with.

I do think media helps humanize or open up the idea of relatability, but I certainly don't count on it.
