(Anonymous) 2013-04-06 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)I personally believe that most religious people who do good things do them with the same amount of... of caring about decentness as nonreligious people, although you can get into a long and tedious argument about, say, whether wanting to be seen as a good person is a good reason for doing things that make you a good person. If you really want look for ulterior motives, you can almost always find some. I don't see much of a point to it.
However, I do think religious people who claim you can't be a good person without the fear of God are pretty clearly saying they're only good people because they're scared.
