She also gets pretty up in arms about Tumblr tagging, but that could be said about half of the comm.

What's the deal with tumblr tagging?

(Anonymous) 2013-04-07 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
According to this comm, how you use/don't use Tumblr tags makes you an asshole or means you're doing Tumblr wrong. So, you're an asshole if you don't tag things, you're an asshole if you use the tags for comments or in other ways that other people don't approve of, you're an asshole if you insist that other people tag things. Essentially, everyone ever is an asshole.

Hmm that is an interesting interpretation of discussion here on FS. Very different from the interpretation I've ended up with but definitely interesting.

Ohhhh yes. I think I'm familiar. Tags like #omg what is life #honestly though this is my opinion and stuff and things

How else are you supposed to make conversation on that website D: ?

(Anonymous) 2013-04-07 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Lol, basically. One side hates comment tags/tag essays because tags are hard to read and they think people should just say what they have to say in the main post. The other side thinks that tags are the way to go, since commenting on a post that's not originally a text post is rude and clogs up their dash and shouldn't be done. It's a lot of "how dare you use this website in ways that I don't!" going on.

Thank you for reminding me again why I still don't want to use Tumblr.

Well, this and all the wank I have seen.

That sounds like it can accurately apply to all things on the internet! Goodness...

(Anonymous) 2013-04-08 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
Lol, basically. I can sympathize with people who'd prefer people to tag things so that they can properly blacklist them since I use TS myself, but if people don't want to tag things on their own blog, I'm not going to badger them about it when I can just unfollow. It might be annoying, but it's not really the end of the world if someone chooses to use a website in a different way than I do. People get way too bent out of shape about it... which, yeah, story of the internet. Haha.

The bad thing is though, when you go to reblog those posts with tags like that? They get deleted when you go to reblog, so you lose it anyway, so yes. What's the fucking point? And it's more work to copy/paste them (what with that odd scroll thing they do) to answer them with your own.

It's far far better to put your thoughts in that oh so NICELY ADDED CAPTION BOX (i think people sometimes don't get what the fuck that box is) and when someone reblogs it, hit the post as "text" button.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-08 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
Yes and no. It all depends on what kind of interaction you want to be having with the website and its users. If you put your thoughts in the caption box, you're effectively

a) speaking directly to the original poster (who often is forced to wade through pages and pages of inane or even hurtful captions on their own post),

and b) broadcasting your opinion to everyone else who comes into contact with that post after you.

If you put your thoughts into your tags, on the other hand, they're only attached to that post on your blog, on your dash, and only you and your followers see those thoughts. It's a more private, less permanent way of expressing an opinion, and a lot of people find that more polite.

Neither way is better, per se. They're just two different ways of using the website, and everyone's going to favor a different one. :/

I don't know, I think if it frustrated someone this much, they'd just unfollow and move on to other blogs and do things the way you like :/

[personal profile] otakugal15 2013-04-08 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
Not really. People like who they usually follow. Things like this may happen enough with ONE fandom they follow (there's a few i follow like that. i black list those things they do tag and i can enjoy everything else they do). WHY do you have to unfollow that person because of one thing?
Either learn to put things behind cuts or something. When it comes to tagging in general, it doesn't take much and Tumblr Savior can block that while you're followers will still like the OTHER things they follow you for.

I guess after LJ and DW, with it's big tagging system, I just don't GET why simple tagging is this horrific thing now on Tumblr. Where tags NEED to be added so offensive things or being bombarded by anything and everything can either get annoying or triggering.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-07 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
and the other half get uptight about tumblr itself.
