Drive-thru vent

(Anonymous) 2013-04-07 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I generally try not to get my hackles up over people working drive-thrus, because I'm sure its not easy work, but OMG. If you go to a Subway drive-thru that has the touchscreen to place your order, by all means do it. But save yourself frustration if they're still using the speaker and a person and just go inside. Because this was the conversation I had today:

"Welcome to Subway, give me a second to wash my hands and change my gloves, and I'll be right with you! ... What can I get you today?"

"I'd like a six-inch meatball sub, light sauce, with spinach, tomato, onio-"

"What kind of bread?"
"Wheat."
"Honey oat?"
"WHEAT"
...
"Would you like [a big long list of cheeses]?"
"No, just-"
"Toasted?"
"No."
"Yes?"
"NO!"

"What vegetables would you like?"

"Spinach, tomato, onion and parmesan"
*long pause*
"Did you say oregano?"
"No."
"Did you say spinach?"
"SPINACH. TOMATO. ONION. AND PARMESAN."

"Would like a meal with chips and a drink?"
"No, but I'd like some barbecue chips."
"Sour Cream and Onion?"
"BARBECUE!"
*long pause*

"Okay, pull forward to the window and I'll get the rest of that!"
*I pull forward*

"I'm sorry, I couldn't hear, did you say you wanted chips?"
"Yes, barbecue."
"And a drink?"
"No."

So I get my food, I go home after a long day on my feet, and open up my sandwich (which was very hot, btw), to find that it's a meatball sub with spinach, tomato and enormous globs of mustard. No onion. No parmesan. But plenty of goddamn mustard. If I weren't already out of my shoes and almost out of gas, I'd have taken it back.

First world problems. Bitching about buying a sandwich at a drive-thru. Use the legs you have been given and just walk into the goddamn place next time.

Someone's feeling touchy today. This person didn't get what they ordered after repeating several times; what's your excuse?

I hate the term first world problems. Just because someone has it worse doesn't make someone else's problems or issues disappear. Its just an excuse to put people down.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-08 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
it's much better than white people problems though

I'm not fond of the term, either, for the reason you name, but it can serve as a reminder that some stuff is too damn petty to get so worked up over. Wrong fast food order? So long as you aren't allergic to any of it and didn't get ripped off (e.g. paid for a more expensive item but got a cheap thing instead)...oh well. Double-check it before leaving next time, or don't patronize that joint in the future.

I am for this philosophy. People in the back will have to wait 15 seconds, I'm making sure my meal was done right before I pull away.

Because everyone in first world countries has legs and no one in any other kind of country does, right?

Just so you know, not every country in the world falls into the categories First, Second, Third, and Fourth world. Spend some time learning instead of trolling fandom places spreading your ignorant condescension.

Some restaurants (like Subway) are definitely better suited to just going inside versus a drive thru, but it sounds like you were kind of being a jerk from the get-go. They probably asked some of the questions in that order because the till prompts them to ask them in that order and it also sounds similar to the order they ask them if you actually go inside to order. A lot of people who haven't worked fast food tend to just rattle an order off at someone without pause, then get pissed off if they don't catch everything immediately or ask for clarification. Drive thru headsets also tend to be shitty to begin with and when you add in factors like wind, traffic noise, and how close a person is to the speaker/how loudly or quickly they speak, it can easily equal not catching something that a person says.

How is OP being *a jerk* in this scenario? It's not like they got all "Bitch, I'ma cut you, if you don't let me talk!"

Um. No. MOST people when they go through things like this get firm and maybe a tad loud, but they were not a jerk. A jerk getting REALLY snippy and cursing at them and making remarks.

the person over the speaker was just a dumbass who can't be arsed in the art of listening.

Have you ever worked somewhere with a drive thru?

Re: Drive-thru vent

[personal profile] otakugal15 2013-04-07 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope. But I've been through them enough I can tell who can and can't be arsed to listen, even if the mic/speaker is faulty.

But, by all means, tell me I don't know. It's not like you know my city and usual haunts for food, oh no.

If you've never worked somewhere with a drive thru, then that honestly explains a lot.

Yep.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-07 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Huh I had no idea Subways even had drive thrus.

But really this isn't a Subway problem, it's kind of just the specific person you had working that day. Or maybe specific speaker/mic issue at that place.

How do you get "sour cream & onion" out of "barbecue chips"? And I feel you on the mustard hate. Blech.

Re: Drive-thru vent

(Anonymous) 2013-04-08 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
IDK why people are blaming you, places like that shouldn't have drive-thrus if they can't function it.

And if she was having so much trouble hearing you she should of had you come to the window to begin with to order. (Said as someone who has had to deal with working at a fucking speaker that doesn't work for shit)

Re: Drive-thru vent

(Anonymous) 2013-04-08 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
Ugh. I've never had Subway drive-thru (I don't think such a thing exists in Canada), but really, sub sandwiches are the kind of thing that are WAY too specific for a drive-thru order anyway. I wonder if this is how ordering drive-thru at your subway typically goes or if their headset was especially shitty today.

This is why I don't go to Subway.

Re: Drive-thru vent

(Anonymous) 2013-04-08 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
Because some random person on the internet got their order screwed up by an inattentive server? Okay.

Re: Drive-thru vent

No, because when I go to Subway I am also met with servers who don't listen to me and get my order wrong.
