Well, I dunno, it'd be hard to get a statistic on people like that. If they don't put their art out there how is anyone to know they're doing any?

Exactly.

There are many artists who do not wish for acknowledgement (or have the means to get it even if they do.) We will never hear about them. I'm thinking of a lot of outsider artists and recluses and such. I know one animator that was on tumblr but then deleted it because she was terrified of the attention and did not want it, even if it was positive. She just wanted to draw. Now she's nowhere to be found.

The idea that creating art is inherently linked to ego/reinforcement is shaky imo.
