I wouldn't say that Trunks/Gohan is more popular. It's just that it has an obsessive tinhat shipper that is willing to fork out massive amounts of money for constant art commissions, doujinshi, and fanfiction on a site dedicated to keeping said ship alive well beyond its freshness date.

Seriously, look at any piece of Trunks/Gohan fanart on y!gallery. All commissioned by the same person. It's like a zombie ship. Not really live and actively shipped, but not dead either.
