Augmented Reality

These are seriously going to be the coolest thing. Cannot wait until they explode the same way smartphones did.

They look cool and all but I'm pretty sure they'd drive me up the wall.

I'm not looking forward to the new pile of social etiquette and adjustment that will have to come with it.

The privacy issue is going to be something to keep an eye on in the future. Because cloud based access of HD videos, with facial recognition, and eventually even fancier algorithms? The possibility for both benefits and misuse is tremendous. Creepshots are going to become even more of a thing when you're literally just looking at someone for the picture.

On the plus side, petty street crime, and police abuse when a disproportionate number of people are recording everything they see is going to be forced to evolve, or disappear. Then you get onto all the general benefits such as having a literal hud with maps and so on an order away.

Sure make the one fancy scifi tech that I can't use! Damn you google!

Why don't you think of the ones whom already got glasses on?

Anyway I much rather want the shiny see through screens that Tony Stark got, they are awesome, or Jarvis I could settle for Jarvis.

As a glasses-wearer myself, I can't see how they won't make ones that fit onto ordinary pairs of glasses.

As a fellow glasses wearer, I have to agree. I hate how many movies are in 3-D now, since I have to have my glasses squished against my head and slightly crooked to get the damn things to fit.

Google has talked about a version built into a pair of normal eyeglasses.

This looks amazing! ...But what if you're wearing glasses already? I'm scared of contacts and I have pretty thick lenses... I encounter this problem every time I have to watch a movie in 3D... ;_;

Yep. They look amazing and part of me says "YES" while another part says "NO!"

So conflicted.

I value my privacy...but...cool gadgets!

I used to be on the fence about this until I actually witnessed a couple of traffic infractions that you wouldn't have even had time to whip out a smartphone to record. Dashcam wouldn't help because for one of them I was a pedestrian. If I had a camera mounted to my face 24/7 there'd be a few more drivers off the road that really need to be off the road.

Re: creepshots and all that. Who cares. People can already do that - and better - with smart phones, because you can put your hands places that craning your head around to look under would get you clocked.

Re: Augmented Reality

(Anonymous) 2013-04-09 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
I can see so much potential for creepiness with these things.

You already have an entire thing on reddit devoted to guys taking upshot skirts of girls butts without their knowledge. Ughhhhhhhh. D:

Holy shit. I seriously cannot believe how fast technology is advancing. When I was a kid, I was still using rotary telephones. Now I can stroll around with insane technology hovering over my eyes like something out of a scifi novel, and I'm not even thirty. I feel like we'll be living in "Ghost In The Shell" with cyberbrains before I'm eighty. Wow.

Re: Augmented Reality

(Anonymous) 2013-04-09 06:53 am (UTC)(link)
This really scares the fuck out of me, because I am a very private person and up until now I've at least usually had the opportunity to opt out of having that privacy technologically invaded. You can not sign up for Facebook, ask address-book sites to take down your information, hell you can usually catch creepshot photogs in the act if they've got a phone out, but when leaving the house and seeing another person means you're probably on camera and that footage stored forever in some impenetrable Google server? That is some seriously dystopian shit right there.
