Think of it this way: it makes it unlikely he'll show up in any of the movies again, and you just don't have to watch the TV show. So, either way, he's out of your hair.

They're probably more annoyed that he'll be in fanworks forever since he's not dead. Some people are horribly offended by the existence of Coulson/anyone fics, you know. :)

Yes because death of a character totally stops fans from writing fics with said character.

That's pretty fair, but everyone was writing fix-it fics all the time anyway, and if anything I feel like there's kind of been a fic downturn lately.

Fans already blatantly ignore the death, though; in half the Avengers fic out there (made up number, not sure how many actually) Coulson's just there, no mention to death.
