Re: Telemarketers, how do you deal with them??

Yo I am one (though through the university I go to, so yeah...).

I know that for us, unless we're specifically told "Can you remove me from the phone list" we usually can't remove them. The reason being, we're supposed to take "I don't want to talk" as "I don't want to talk now." If you're specific that you don't want to be called ever, we'll remove you. Otherwise, we call yearly, and if you don't answer we'll call ~5 times during that year. If you hang up once we say where we're from, we won't call until he next year.

Of course this is for a legit university, so probably doesn't apply for you.

(also, I have to say, I'd be happy if you played music for me. Better than yelling at me....)

Nah, sure I'm sure it's something shady, I've asked them to remove me and they haven't.

(And yeah, I figured I should have some fun, get the to hang up quickly, but not be a jerk either to the person on the other line either. Best solution I got.)

Then yeah, it's really shady if they wont remove you :( That sucks. (I know that refusals at my work hurt our stats, so some people will mark a call as "answering machine" or "recall" when they shouldn't so it doesn't look bad for them. But doubt it would be in your case).

But yeah, that sounds like a good solution :)

You can report them if you've asked them to remove you and they haven't. Although for the non-legit places, it really won't make a difference. :/

High five from a fellow University telemarketer! Well, former, anyway. I had so many people get pissed that we were "calling them too much", when they just kept hanging up on us instead of asking us to take them off the list.

High five indeed!

We get that all the time! I get a lot of pissed off people, really. My university's huge, so in the past students weren't really all that connected to the university, so there are a ton of alumni who want nothing to do with us. But then don't tell us to take them off the list.
