My family saw an interview of Adele on 60 minutes and my father said at least once, "Why is she talking like that?" when he heard her speaking voice. He still says "I can't believe she's British!" whenever she appears on something. A co-worker of mine thought Adele was African-American after first hearing her songs, too.

Wait, you know what's weirder? For over 20 years, my mother believed Rick Astley was black. RICK ASTLEY. Then my sister and I showed her that famous music video...

Your mother's not alone. For years, it was believed that Rick Astley was a front for a black singer.
