I love Star Trek. I like Data. But fuck off, he was the worst incarnation of Holmes everrr ;A;

I think Holmes may have said "indubitably" once in canon (maybe), it's not a fucking catchphrase. And the deerstalker! And the pipe! And the everything! Sorry, but this is a bad, bad watered-down interpretation of Holmes that is so OOC I can't even.

I'm sorry, OP, I just hate hearing this.

That's only if you view Data's goofiness as an impediment to his interpretation of the role rather than the very thing that made his interpretation the awesomest ever. It's called affectionate parody ;)

...My headcanon is that Data also inputs all fanfiction/fanart/cartoon adaptations, etc., and his Holmes adaptation therefore weighs the canon stories heavily, but the sheer number of Holmes "stereotypes" (deerstalker and all) used over time in other works create an accumulated weight high enough that he decides to incorporate them, particularly when it comes to including other, primarily human crewmembers in his stagings who are potentially more aware of these generally understood, if inaccurate, visual and spoken cues that denote "Sherlock Holmes" and in fact are expectant of them, and who do not want to actually listen to a breakdown of their misconceptions, or the origins of said misconceptions -- not even an organized list of adaptations, professional and otherwise, that Data has calculated would fulfill the maximum number of misconceptions they have that is also cross-checked against their personalities, backgrounds, and Data's own experiences with them for maximum appeal.

Except Troi, who would totally eat all romantic/erotic Holmes fanfic up with a spoon.

(Now I'm imagining pop-culture sharing among Star Trek humans and aliens... Like, you'd show a Klingon parts of RDJ Holmes to sell 'em on Holmes, but Ferengi would kind of love any dumb Watsons, just to make fun of him... woo, tangent.)
