The belief that one is immortal, that one can never die? That's not something I've ever heard any level-headed person say, religious or otherwise.

My belief in ever-lasting life is really no different that a science's 'conservation of matter' theory. I don't actually think I'm always gonna be me, just as I am now, for the rest of eternity.

But what your personal beliefs are =/= what you've heard any level-headed person say, religious or otherwise, unless we're classing a whooooole lot of religious sorts as not level-headed.

Actually it is. In all my life, I have never yet met one person who reads the Bible literally. Every single person I've ever met understands the Bible as a metaphor, a holy text that uses the poetry and intricacy of language to talk about something for which there are no proper words. It seems that my experience is very different from yours though. Not surprising considering how belief can differ drastically even over the smallest distances.

I don't believe everythign in the Bible is literal - things like the prophetic dreams of Daniel and Revelation are very metaphorical in their imagery, but I am a Creation Literalist. I'm also a Noah's Flood, Plagues of Moses, and other Genesis story literalist.

We exist, and not all of us support the worst of modern fundamentalism.

Stuff like the prophetic dreams I mentioned, it's usually stated that they are dreams.

Other stuff, well it's a great deal to do with faith whether a person can really believe they happened. I know that's vague, but in the end, matters of faith have always come off as vague when under examination.

If you actually read the old testament, it's got a decent amount of Game of Thrones-style stories. And Revelations is pure mushrooms and acid.
