In my opinion, it's the species crossover. In my particular religion, I believe that the soul is the essence/form of a thing. It's what makes that thing what it is. I am a human. A human in the very real physical sense. Therefore, it makes sense that any immortal soul I may have is also human. My essence/form is human. If I were a werewolf, it would make sense that my immortal soul would also be a wolf. The essence/form of a wolf is a wolf soul (cuz I don't sign on to the belief that animals don't have them). But a human is not a wolf. A human is a human. Therefore, the jump from human physicality to wolf essence/form is not really something I'm willing to buy.

And this is all assuming that werewolves are real, which (as far as science has shown) they are not. And of course someone will say that I'm already not giving science much credit by believing in a god anyway and I just have to tell whoever that is that being religious doesn't mean I can't apply logic to my beliefs or argue from a scientific premise.

A tree is still a tree once it dies. Any essence it has is tree, even after it's made into tables or paper. It doesn't become a whale.

I'm a Therian and a Reincarnationist. I believe that my soul has been a multitude of things, and has learned a multitude of lessons. I'm human now, with a 'human' soul (In so much that a soul can be limited by physical form), but I also have a soul that has, at one time, been a wolf. It 'remembers' it is Wolf. It's part of the whole that is Spirit, and may have some trailing essence of Wolf to it.

But, that's just my experience. And why I believe what I do.

Just out of interest, what, then, is thy position on religions such as Buddhism and Hinduism, that explicitly include belief in reincarnation into other-species bodies? Are they as invalid as the belief of some otherkin that they have a soul that belongs in an other-species body?
