I understand that not all Christians are Biblical literalists, and I get not wanting to be lumped in with them.

But the ones who take Genesis literally DO exist, and they ARE "real Christians" too, and it is valid to bring them up when talking about the absurd things that some religious people believe -- especially in the context of asking why we make fun of some people for believing absurd things, but not others.

I know that. It's just so annoying to try to have a conversation with someone as a Christian and have 'BUT YOU BELIEVE THAT PEOPLE ARE MADE OUT OF DIRT AND BBQ RIBS!' constantly thrown in my face. I accept that they exist. It's a lot of people around me who can't seem to grasp that their existence doesn't automatically make me one of them.

But... nobody said they were talking about you, or about all Christians. They said, how is being otherkin any more ridiculous than believing in a literal reading of the Genesis creation story. That doesn't in any way implicate other Christians who don't interpret that story literally.

Some of the first people I replied to were talking about how no one makes fun of religious people on F!S but immediately started ragging on otherkin, to which I commented that religious people *always* get ragged on. All the 'imaginary friend' and 'people aren't dirt' jokes.

So it didn't start there but saying the beliefs as a Christian aren't nutso compared to the notion of otherkin is met with 'BUT BBQ RIBS AND DIRT PEOPLE!!' Though not in those exact words lol. A couple times I got direct 'but you believe in immortality' and 'so how 'bout all those passages on the right way to beat your slaves?' Even after I said I'm not a fundamentalist, I was still stubbornly met with that kind of talk.

Okay, but it's not about YOU personally and your own belief system. It's about all kinds of religious beliefs that are still treated with respect by most thoughtful people, even though they can be a bit wackadoo. Which is not something that's afforded to otherkin.

"'BUT BBQ RIBS AND DIRT PEOPLE!!'"

And here, I thought I was over my nostalgia for camp meals with the BSA, and now you got me wanting something like buffalo burgers, WITH REAL DIRT!

Now that you've mentioned the word 'camp,' you've got me craving the food I used to have at overnight camp when I was a counselor.

Ah, watered down orange juice and boxed mashed potatoes...

Not a serious reply, but I just have to say, I'm so screaming "I AM MADE OF DIRT AND BBQ RIBS" at some point in my life, now.

So thank you for that.
