Good point, thanks for pointing out the slash / unwanted third character context of some of that. I'm generally not involved in the shipwars part of fandom, so I guess I escaped the worst of it.

"Now, if guys would usually say "omg, this disgusting slut of a useless male char! I hope he dies of ass cancer for forcing femaleA and femaleB apart! He isn't a good char anyways because he is way too strong. I wish they'd kill him off in a very brutal way" THEN we could talk.

It admittedly doesn't include the bit about femaleA and femaleB, but I've seen the rest of that very often in male-dominated discussions of Justin Bieber and other (usually young) male celebs, graphic death threats and all.

and I've probably been hanging out in different parts of fandom, because if anyone called a female character a slut, let alone the rest of it, they'd be jumped on instantly. (and then those people would get attacked by others for slut-shaming, and so on.)

I haven't, not personally. It's usually in blanket accusations of fandoms I'm a part of and where I write fic in.
