I'm trying to write some smut right now and I keep thinking "No, why are they thinking about sex? Nobody would want to bang right now. They have so much emotional baggage and other conflicts that need to be dealt with first!"

I'm probably not suited for smut-writing.

Ha, this is why I feel unqualified to write porn or even serious shipping fic. Most of the shipping fic I see is all "The building exploded, and X couldn't help but notice how the fire lit up the highlights in Y's hair" and it's all very ridiculous. I know we think about sex a lot as a group (I know I do, at least) but there's a time and a place for this stuff, and I have a hard time believing otherwise smart, competent characters would get distracted by sex when there are more important things to worry about. :/

Exactly. I get that it's basically a sexual fantasy written down. I just find it hard to write down sexual fantasies without hating everything because of how incredibly SILLY it is, and that's why I usually end up writing terrible crack fic.
