Re: Animated shows/movies that scarred you for life
The animated version of either LOTR or The Hobbit. I honestly don't remember anything about it except that I was five years old, and someone's thumb got cut off, and I had a massive shrieking panic meltdown. (My dad had been trying to take away my favorite stuffies because I was a "Big Girl" now, and I freaked out bad enough he gave me back my Chubbles -- if anyone remembers those toys -- to calm me down.)
The other would be Watership Down. I loved it, and I watched it repeatedly, but the scenes with Woundwort and the Black Rabbit freaked me out. And the rabbits suffocating underground and turning blue and the music. My gods. No matter how many times I watched it that always scared the fuck out of me. I have a friend who did a piece of art in a style remiscient of the Watership Down art, and it sent chills down my spine.
To a lesser degree, The Last Unicorn. The scene with the witch, and the Red Bull chasing the Unicorn until she turned into Amalthia, and the unicorns helpless in the sea, and the creepy castle, and Rene Auberjonois as the skeleton crying out "Unicorn! Haggard, unicorn!"
And I still plan to get tattoos from the latter two at some point. ("My heart has joined the thousand", and "There are no happy endings, because nothing ever ends", from each respectively.) But oy.
