I think in this peculiar setting I would be even more interested in different takes of the situation... as in a romantic relationship between the closest kin would be considered uncommon but not unheard of among Elves, and wouldn't be condemned, while of course it's seen as taboo among humans,

Well, among the Noldor canonically it was taboo, as when Maeglin fell for Idril in Gondolin she saw it as something 'crooked' in him, as the 'Eldar wedded not with kin so near'. That's the Eldar, but since Tolkien did not write of the culture of the wood-Elves, no-one knows.

In my head-canon, Elves need not worry about the problems of interbreeding producing children with congenital (physical) health problems, but it might (in my 'verse) lead to what we would call mental health issues, unbalanced behaiviour, insanity, sadism, etc.

I have to wonder why Tolkien considered incest taboo, unless he did think that too-close relations would indeed cause mental and physical problems. But then he wrote from the standpoint of being a staunch Catholic, which is all through his writing, and that may be his only reason.
