Could someone please explain this? I haven't been into Doctor Who for a long time now, but this secret has me pretty interested.

Spoilers for...let's just go with all of Moffat's run

[personal profile] elephantinegrace 2013-04-13 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
River was supposed to kill the Doctor, but she didn't, so the universe started ending, so the stars started disappearing, so the TARDIS made herself explode at every point in time to keep the Earth warm until the Doctor shot himself into it so he'd die and get resurrected by Amy's memories...or something.

Honestly, I'm not sure anyone knows what the Season 6 finale was about. It's really hard to explain.

Yeah, Moffat left me really confused, that's why I stopped watching in the first place. :(

Umm, you're mixing seasons.

The TARDIS explodes in season 5, causing the universe to end.

River killing the Doctor is season 6 (though her refusing causes a very similar situation).

The painting is of the former - the TARDIS exploding.

Season 6 finale: Because River tried to subvert a "fixed point in time" all of time turned into a weird history-all-happens at once and time never moves mess. And the universe is slowly collapsing under the strain. And the Silence still wants the Doctor dead and River refuses to fix up the mess she caused until the Doctor marries her and shows her he's got a back-up plan.

S6 New!Who vs S6 Classic!Who

The first image was of a painting Van Gogh did that of the TARDIS exploding as seen at the end of S6 of New!Who (which aired 2011) while the black and white exploding TARDIS was from a sixth series serial of Doctor Who, a Two adventure called "The Mind Robber," which aired in 1968.

Season 5. That's when the TARDIS explodes.
