Why should that annoy you, though? Being fat is just a body type. There's not really specific pan-fandom kinks for being really short or having brown hair either. I'm not into it but I don't consider it to be too "out there" for fandom.

Besides, I want the characters that I'm reading about in kink memes to generally resemble the characters from canon. In almost all cases, those characters are slim. If they're not slim in canon, I wouldn't want them skinnied up, but the reverse is also true. Knotted dicks is overall a really small change to someone's physical appearance, you know? But massive weight gain (or weight loss) just doesn't do it for me.

DA - I think that's the point the AYRT was trying to make. They do like seeing their favorite characters gain weight and/or deal with massive weight gain - that's why it's a kink and should be on kink lists.

I'm sorry, I think *I* wasn't being clear. I'm not doubting that it's a kink or judging anyone for having it, but just because something is a legit kink doesn't make it a common or hugely popular one. And that in turn doesn't mean anything except that unless people request it, it's not likely to show up on fandom kink lists by default. It's not being left out for malicious reasons, but it's not a listed kink just like, IDK, the act of coming on someone's navel is, or if someone had mermaids as a kink. The kinks are fine, but since they're not commonly shared, you gotta speak up if you want it added to a kink list.

idk, kink lists I've seen usually list some pretty damn obscure ones, and if gelbooru is any indicator, weight-related kinks are actually not that uncommon. I'm inclined this has more to do with people being shamed into keeping their kink quiet rather than it actually being obscure (see also: watersports). The really "out there" kinks that have little to no basis in reality are probably more obscure than the ones that do, but because people don't generally have any problem with it beyond "that's just fucking weird," there's not much to stop people from admitting to them in kink-friendly spaces.

The person above is right - I mean in the context of the kink of them gaining weight and dealing with their body being different, sorry I wasn't clear

But a lot of other kinks change the characters from how they are presented in canon in major ways - a lot of fic does that, in fact, with h/c being a major offendor. A lot of the appeal of h/c is, after all, taking ultra manly, emotionally reticent alpha male characters and revealing their vulnerable sides in often OOC ways. Not to mention that fic changes physical descriptions as well to suit the writer's interests - I can't tell you how many fics I've read have had six packs appearing magically on every character despite the obvious burgeoning paunches of the actors, or fics where characters with average body types suddenly become fragile and delicate.

I won't go too much into it, but vulnerability & giving in to temptation are big parts of weight gain kink, on top of the physical appearance factor. So there's more to it than just body type, and I don't think it necessarily changes the characters more than other kinks or fic tropes.
