Okay, I've been using tumblr to trawl for gifs for like a year but I just now decided to keep a blog there and I cannot. figure out. how to use it. I'm using the Minimalist theme, how can I change my "about" widget? I feel like I'm missing something major lol

You can go to your tumblr page and at the top right there should be a customize button and it'll take you to where you can edit and change your theme and stuff.

I know that much, I just can't figure out how to edit the widgets! lol

Sorry, I don't use that theme, and sometimes different themes have special options/customization. The customization page has the about panel on the side, right?

right, it does. I can't find any "widget" options over there so I tried customizing the html, but the "about" bit is just listed as "widget"

What is this theme and what does it look like??

Can you like screenshot exactly what you are trying to change? I added the Minimalist theme to my testing blog. I didn't see any widget options though.

I wanted to change this bit here... in the html editor this area is a series of widgets. I know there has to be something really simple I'm overlooking but I can't figure it out!

I'm pretty sure that's the description, which you can find to type in whatever in the sidebar when you open customization

the description? Hmm.. I've edited that part before and nothing on the page changed, so I assumed it was part of the header and thus hidden under my image header. Maybe there's something wrong with my browser or something...

I just put it on one of my sideblogs, and my description comes up next to the icon and everything, so it has to be the description.

aha! I knew it had to be an easy fix... but yeah, it's not working for me. I'll try firefox, maybe it's all down to my chrome or something.

This theme is called "The Minimalist"? I ask, because this is what theme is coming up for me for The Minimalist.

yep, now that I've switched to firefox it is working for me too :) I guess my chrome just didn't feel like participating or something...

eheheheh thanks? I hadn't quite meant to out myself...
but yes, yes, absolutely yes you should watch. I mean I'm biased because I love this show to bits, but it's an objectively well-made, well-acted show. Pacing needs some work so it's not perfect, but it's a great show.

Can you explain what you mean by "about widget"? Are we talking about an "about" page--like for introductions/personal information? Or a blog description? I might be able to help, but apparently I need things in really simple terms. :P

sure. There's a little thing on the side of the page (where my icon shows up) that says "ABOUT", and apparently (according to the html for the page) is a widget.

Ahh, okay! I got confused between "The Minimalist" and "Minimal" (damn Tumblr themes). If you want to put some text underneath that, just go to "Customize" and type into the "Description" box. If you don't want an "About" there, go a little further down and uncheck "Show About Widget." As far as I can tell, that's the extent of what you can do with that widget. :/
