Re: Job Thread

Fine, you want the details? I'll give you details.

I'm the sole branding manager and graphic designer for a megachurch. I get upwards of 10-15 projects completed a week, and that still leaves 4-5 of the "lesser important" ones to shift to the next week. I have a to-do list that is four pages long with projects that are due in the next three weeks. I work 9 hours a day minimum. I have stayed until after midnight on more than one occasion when projects demanded it (and they usually demanded it because my bosses have zero comprehension of what they're putting their underlings through when they give me 10000000 stupid idiotic unnecessary revisions (like "I want blue here" then "I don't like the blue, you know I don't like blue, change it!") that they give me while in the comfort of their own homes while I'm still chained to my desk). I have been told on more than one occasion that I "give too much" to my job, and my boss is actually terrified of losing me because he knows that all the work I do will suddenly have to find a new home. That still gives me precisely zero leverage because my boss is a spineless wimp and doesn't know how to fight for his department.

I didn't sleep with my damn boss either. Sorry, not everyone is your loose lazy co-worker.

Oh, and I was just reminded of one time that I left at 11 PM and I had to have my SO come get me because as I was walking to my car I realized I was bobbing and weaving like I was drunk and I couldn't get my eyes to focus on anything.

But, please, tell me again how I'm just like your lazy co-worker.

I take it back, you don't sound like my co-worker at all. You just sound like a classic workaholic who is no doubt an absolute delight to be around. Raging bitch is in this year, or so I've heard.

It's nice you at least seem to do your job, though. :)

Yes, because nobody in the history of ever has ever just let the pent up rage flow when they're anonymous. Surely, I am making history as we speak.

Actually, I'm pleasant to a fault at work, it's part of the problem. If I was this raging bitch you claim me to be, I probably wouldn't get half the nonsense I do, but since I'm pleasant and accommodating to their stupidity (because I have to be, what other option do I have), I get shat on instead. And, y'know, maybe the reason I sound like said raging bitch now is because I'm completely and utterly burned to a crisp and extremely tired of it. But I apologize if my harsh tones have upset you.

DA

You're an asshole.

Please tell me you are not in HR, because anyone with a valid complaint must be trying to cover up their own inadequacies amiright? They can't have a valid complaint about workplace harassment, because this one woman one time slept with the boss and was a shitty worker.

Condescending ass has been all the rage for decades, or so I've heard.

"for a megachurch"

There's your problem right there, tbqh. (I'm Christian.)

This will probably sound cliched as hell but lately I've stopped my frantic PICK UP ALL THE SHIFTS after cashing one of my larger paychecks and instead of feeling the normal relief and happiness I just thought "I wish I could buy a couple of those hours back".

I know you're in a really shitty place socially but I can't help but feel you should be laying some of this pressure at your bosses door.

I'm definitely not blaming you, you don't deserve this kind of hostile workplace and I'm probably completely talking out of my ass but I did have a problem with thinking that behaving professionally was keeping my mouth shut and just taking the blows. But IME letting your coworkers treat you like that only encourages the behavior. Calmly speaking up and letting them know their behavior is unacceptable everytime you're treated this way and holding firm *may* get you a different response.

As for the faster, better, cheaper attitudes you have to deal with have you ever explained your process and what you have to do in painstaking detail or asked for advice you know they can't give?

In any event I'm really sorry you have to deal with this. :(
