I've been in fandom since college in 1995. My interest has come and gone, but I'm still involved in fandom now, nearly 20 years later. As others have said, I think it is something where your interest level will vary based on a number of factors including other interests, what shows/movies/books/whatever you consume and if they have strong fandoms, and whatever. I don't, however, think it is something you outgrow. Anymore than I outgrew crocheting and crosstiching when I gave them up due to lack of interest anymore. *shrugs*
