Same reason we put subtitles or dubs on movies, or translate books. Some of us aren't so very dull-minded and stupid, as to be unable to enjoy media about subjects more foreign than the neighbor two blocks down the road. Some of us even go further and actually are somewhat familiar with the rest of the world, and some people have even lived in those countries. It's not a "Scandinavian joke for Scandinavian people," it's a Scandinavian joke for anyone familiar with Scandinavia, complete with an explanation for the people who aren't familiar with Scandinavia, but also aren't so insular that they consider the whole of Western Europe to be an obscure subject.

And why not English? It's the Lingua Franca that the most people will understand.
