I got as far as the first two chapters. I fucking hated it.

If I recall, the boy sticking his tongue at Jane couldn't be simply, "stuck his tongue out as far he could." Nooooooo. It has to be "stuck his pink tongue so far it would've popped a red vein". Yuck. Thanks for the imagery, Bronte.

Writers get paid by the word usually. That's why so many classics are so incredibly wordy.

Or maybe she just wanted us all to have that image burned in our minds for the rest of eternity. Either way!
