Well, yeah, but you could extrapolate that in the way people feel about their old car or house. Many people grow very attached to the things they've owned for a long time, but the TARDIS has always been a vehicle that, as far as anyone knows, had no true mind or consciousness.

Besides that, Idris was a casting/writing choice. They could have chosen to make her look like a little wizened woman or a very young child or something, and each of those choices would have implied something else about what the TARDIS "is".

It doesn't bother me in an in-universe sense, as no one chose Idris' body, but rather it bodies me that Gaiman chose to characterize the TARDIS as a lovely woman the Doctor flirted shamelessly and was also out of her gourd.

There was also the fact that before the TARDIS' soul was put into that body, there was another living being in there, and that's pretty much glossed over. A person died so the Doctor could have his TARDIS look like a sexy woman to flirt with. For a show that goes on about how EVERY living being is important, that seems kinda sketchy. Like, we're just ignoring the death of someone so the Doctor can do some flirting... how lovely.

The TARDIS has been "she" for a long time - because she's a ship, and ships are - but I would have loved older woman TARDIS (she's "old girl", ffs).
