Ugggggghhhhhh (health post)

(Anonymous) 2013-04-17 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
Today, I went to Sonic for lunch and ordered a chicken strip dinner with a root beer float, because I have not had a root beer float in years and have been craving one for a week. But I forgot to specify a *small* float, so they gave me a medium, which -- this being America -- is pretty damn big.

But I ate it all, because it was delicious, and now I feel awful. I just feel really lethargic and blah, and I just got up from a three-hour nap only because I wanted to come check this post.

And I just really hope this is not some sign of diabetes coming after me. Because it's in my family, and I know I have other risk factors. About a year ago, I had some blood work done for some other things and my fasting glucose level was at 93, which my doctor said was just fine and I was doing great on that regard -- since then I've done research on my own, and have learned that anything over 100 is "pre-diabetes" level, which just makes me nervous.

Because despite telling myself then that I was going to make major changes so that I stayed "just fine" in that regard...I totally didn't. Well, I did good for about two and a half months. In about two months, it will have been a year since that time at the doctor. So I'm thinking maybe I'll work really hard to get back on track so that -- if I make an appointment then for a checkup, it won't look like I've just been sitting on my ass eating crap for the better part of a year.

It sounds like you're doing exactly what you should be doing. Slip-ups happen for everyone, but you didn't pig out and then tell yourself, "Well, you screwed up, so there's no point in trying anymore." You made a mistake and you're determined to get back on the horse. Good on you.

Just speaking from personal experience here. If what you did today hasn't been normal to your routine for a while it could just be your body reacting to the sudden overdoing it.

I really cut down on caffeinated drinks because I'm very sensitive to the diuretic effects it has. Sometimes I'll have a caffeinated soda, or more rarely, one cup of coffee in the morning if I'm feeling really tired. The other day I was jittery as hell from one can of soda because it had been so long since I'd had anything with caffeine in it. It really freaking sucked.

It might be that, yea. I know someone who gets sick every time they eat McDonald's. They rarely eat greasy foods so it does a number on their stomach.

:( Hope you feel better soon OP. (And that everything works out for you!)

Well, I haven't had a root beer float in a long time, but I certainly haven't been shying away from sweets and fried food. Though, I do tend to go for the small or mini sizes, so maybe it was just that that was a lot of ice cream.

Personally, I don't have a problem with the ice cream usually, but that much root beer that likely has HFCS will give me a killer migraine and leave me lethargic all day. I would not worry too much unless this sort of reaction becomes normal.
