It's not condescending, it's fact.

I can read all I want about being a British nanny in the 19th century but I'm hardly going to know exactly what it's like regardless. Because I don't have the experience of it.

I don't know what it's like to be Greek, I don't know what it's like to be a musician, I don't know what it's like be an archaeologist. Simply because I've never been any of them. Taking similar experiences and assuming that they give me the proper understanding of what it's like being Greek, or musician or an archaeologist is just silly, becuase it's not.

There are plenty of sacrifices to be made without having children or pets or being a carer, so that doesn't mean you understand what motherhood is like.
