I didn't care much for Meg either until the past couple of seasons. Again, because she started to make some real connections with the main characters, however tentative. But continuity alone was reason enough to keep her around--as you say, she'd been around longer than anyone else except for Sam and Dean. (And the Ghostfacers. They are now the longest-surviving recurring non-main characters on the show, technically beating even Sam and Dean, who've died several times each. XD)

As I said further up the thread, I actually wouldn't object to seeing Bela come back for an episode or two as a demon. I think she'd be a great one, and it'd be a nice nod to earlier continuity.
