I'd say that it is perfectly fine to like a pairing but still wish there was less of it around. One of my fandoms has always been completely dominated by That One Pairing. I used to like it a lot back in the day and I still think it's cute. I wish there was less of it because it utterly overshadows everything else. I'm sure a good 70% of all fic posted centers on it, and even fic that isn't centered on it will frequently make some allusion to it anyway. It's all but impossible to find the characters involved paired with anyone else.

It isn't the pairing that bothers me. It's that the fandom can't see beyond it.

This. Thank you. I have a couple of fandoms in similar (though not as bad, fortunately) situations, where one pairing seems to dominate, and although they are cool pairings and there are good reasons behind their popularity, their prevalence means there's less variety. It bores me.
