The engines themselves for most video games are built for shading lighter skin, or so I'm told. Dragon Age had some of the worst. The darkest skins were purple.

Skyrim annoyed me quite a bit with this.

"No, I want a dark elf! DARK!! Do you know what 'dark' even means?"
I ended up just giving my character like a pale blue skin or something.

Luckily, DA:O had some good mods for more skin tones. I think the skin tones in DA2 were a lot better - actually, the characters were more attractive in general, I think. Only mad that I can't adjust body shape, because I wanted a slender pretty boy mage and Hawke's build can only be muscular macho.

Ugh Dragon Age's skin tones bother the fuck outta me. Even with mods installed for more shades, the darker you go the more splotchy and awful the skin looks. Just makes it obvious that despite DA's progressiveness in many areas, their skin tintmaps were still obviously created with light shades in mind. So annoying.

I just want my snooty dark-skinned mage princess, ok
