I agree re: semantics.

Re: Her mom, from my perspective what you have to remember is Jolene is an addict and has been all of Juliette's life. That completely destroyed Juliette's childhood in a way that Juliette has no responsibility to forgive, though of course it would be nice if she did (and probably better for Juliette, in terms of not holding on to that anger).

But, more importantly IMO, it's not like Jolene's been clean for any significant period of time. Yes, it's good that she's trying. But this is not the first time Jolene has gotten clean, and I see no reason that Juliette should necessarily believe it's going to stick. And Juliette 100% SHOULD NOT feel ANY responsibility for making sure her mom stays clean because she is the child in this situation (and only a young adult at that), and she has already suffered enough because of her mother.

I also disagree that Jolene has taken full responsibly (or that Juliette isn't trying to better herself, but that's anther story). Jolene is trying, sure, but Juliette didn't get that me-me-me personality from nowhere. I think Juliette's decision to have Jolene go back to Nashville and move out was 100% right and healthiest for both of them.

...

Apparently I have a lot of feeling about this. I just really don't like the the show sometimes implies that her mother's sobriety is somehow this broken young woman's responsibility. (Not saying you were saying that -- I just get the vibe from the show sometimes.)
