First, you shouldn't feel like a bad person. Who cares. It's only fanfic.

Second, great picture. A++ secret making / picture choosing.

I sometimes feel like I'd like to do that. Sometimes even when reading published fiction.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-19 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
I mostly end up writing fic with just dialogue. I write enough description to set the scene, but I'm not huge on lengthy passages of description or character thoughts.

I don't read fanfic but I have done that with overly descriptive books. I really don't need an author to tell me every minor detail of the landscape, I prefer imagining it for myself.

Plus with some authors their over descriptive nature gets really boring really quickly.

part of the reason i like dostoevsky. most of his books seem to be just characters either talking or thinking.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-19 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
Meh, I do this too.

Yeah, I do this occasionally. Sometimes the author has some good dialogue, but they bog the fic down with way too much unnecessary description.

I don't really understand why you feel like a bad person, there's nothing wrong with seeking out what you enjoy. Some people only read the smut, some people always skip the smut, some like to know the end before beginning, some people are there for the angst, some people are there for the fluff, some people never read the last bit of an epic story because they don't want it to end, some people only read for their kinks, some only read for the world-building. There are a million different ways to enjoy fic.

Is that the Lion's Gate bridge? If so, SQUEE MY HOMETOWN.

Ignore all this if it's the Golden Gate. :P

(Anonymous) 2013-04-19 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
I can try and do a zoom and enhance but I'm like 75% sure that's the Golden Gate

Yeah, it's Golden Gate. (Reverse image search for the win.) Full image is here.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-19 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
Yep. Good researching.

I do kind of wonder why OP chose that image - just a random pretty image, I guess.

Purely for selfish reasons, I thought it was pretty and wanted it for myself ;) I love SF.

And yeah, random eyecandy so it's not so empty-looking.

I often skip to the sex, depending on the mood.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-19 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
I usually only read the dialogue within the sex.

(Unless it's just "Oh...harder." "Ooooooooohhhhhhhh." Then I just skip the whole thing.)

(Anonymous) 2013-04-19 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
SA

That is to say, I skip the sex scenes unless there is interesting dialogue within it.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-19 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
It's up to you how you enjoy a story, anon! There's no wrong or right way about it, and whatever lets go home happy is good enough.

Sometimes it also is nice to just watch the characters interact more directly like that.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-19 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
Dude, I do the SAME exact thing! I thought I was terrible too! ahahaha but honestly, it's fanfic. Excessive detail on a character's blue pool eye balls and fictional fantasy/sci fi history just goes straight over my head. lol

Meh. I do that too. Post secret: I do it for regular books sometimes too. It's like watching a movie--if the quiet build up scene drags on too long, dangit, you just want some dialogue or something. Dialogue is important. It can convey a whole story on its own.

I really do it for badfic. Like, if there's something I really really want to read, but there's only one fic of it, and it was clearly written by a 12-year-old, well, the dialogue's the easiest way to figure out what happens.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-20 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I do this too. And then I end up writing fic that's all dialogue, and get told it's too talky. I just hate writing narration as much as reading it.
