(Anonymous) 2013-04-19 12:05 am (UTC)(link)Which is all well and good when you're writing the Great American Novel or painting something that won't be appreciated until you cut off your ear and you've been dead for a while. But fanfic is never going to be the Great American Novel, and it's okay want comments - just like published writers want people to buy the books so they get royalties checks, comments are how you "pay" people for fic.
It's like, there's a kink meme, and I fill one or two prompts a month, and I do it all anon because I think it's really ridiculous what I'm writing -- but I know what kinds of prompts will get me a dozen or more comments telling me that I'm a great writer. Sometimes, that's all I want to hear. That I can write something that I don't care about, but know that it makes other people happy.
