I'm a sort of new(like a few months) artist on Tumblr... and I just don't understand why every single post I make for my art gets completely ignored. And I mean, completely. 0 Notes.

I'm in a huge fandom, tag it, post at good traffic hours. I constantly see horrid art with like 100 notes at least for my ship. But my work just gets completely ignored, and I think it's actually pretty good so wtf? Am I missing some mysterious acceptance ritual? what

Do you have many people following you? Are you posting popular stuff? Are you sure your stuff is that great?

I don't want to share my stuff obviously since I'd be outing myself but yes, I think my stuff is quite good. I've been drawing for years,(I used to do commissions on GaiaOnline and would get crazy amounts as offers/bribes) I don't do anime style anymore but I think I've transitioned into realism well, and realistic art style suits the fandom better than anime style.

I don't have that many people following me, but since I tag it with the ship name and series title, I figured I'd get at least people from there?

And popular, yes. Biggest ship in one of the most popular fandoms on tumblr.

if it's a really busy fandom (think superwholock), lots of people don't track the tags because there's just too much.

It really comes down to followers. I have a more popular blog following me which reblogged one of my pictures, and that one picture has a lot more notes than the others.

As far as getting followers goes, my best advice is to talk to people. Then again, I really don't know why people are following me.

Hmm yeah that might be why, I've seen people I follow mention not wanting to go into tags. I try to talk to people but it feels like they don't really care what I have to say since they don't know me. :s

A lot of people will follow you if you follow them first.

A couple of things...
-afaik, tumblr only counts the first few tags as 'official', meaning if you tag something as xyz but xyz comes after a bunch of other tags, it won't show up for anyone tracking that tag.
-if you're including notes that are more than a sentence or two long with each pic, a lot of people will either not reblog or reblog but delete your notes. It's better to either put lengthy artist notes as a separate linked post, or put them in the tags, or leave them off ime
-The amount of reblogs you get is often entirely random. I have a sketch on my account that's gotten 200+ notes, but the finished version (which is under the same tags and is linked in the sketch's description) only has about 70 notes. They've both been up for months, but for whatever reason more people saw the sketch.
-Posting more often will bring more attention.
-If you reblog or make text posts a lot, you might be driving away followers who are only interested in your art. If you have a tag for your art, make sure there's a prominent link to it.

Followers are a major point, as said above. I'm a pretty ok artist, I sell my commissions around the $200 range...but it took nearly a year for my work to get noticed on tumblr, and it was mostly due to a bigname noticing my works and then the followers/reblogs/notice came rolling in.

Sometime's it's just luck, or you can try submitting your work to one of those themed blogs? Something bignamed in the fandom?

Also you need to slaughter a goat at midnight, write your username in blood on the screen with google up. That's the real turning point
