...Steve/Tony? I'm mostly just curious about the pairing, but the worst fics I've seen in that fandom are Steve/Tony.

(I read all the pairings when the story looks interesting, so I have a pretty big sample size too.)

Clint/Natasha, actually (though I don't doubt the same is true in Steve/Tony). The worst of the lot is this one where Natasha is basically a 1950s housewife to an abusive Clint. Oh, and she's religious in this fic, too. Because that's totally realistic. *massive eyeroll*

I KNOW THAT FIC. It's awful. :(

Oh THANK FUCK someone said this. So it's not only me who thinks it's completely overrated and just terrible?

I can't even with that story, the way domestic abuse is something romanticized, characters are FUBAR'd over and over and OVER (really if you ship these people and like them? How do you treat them like this then?) Also, Clint in this fic is creepy beyond creepy and not a guy any woman should hook up with like ever. Stalking is not a sign of true love.

I don't understand *what* people love about it. It's messed up to hell and back and badly written.

Oh, god, that fic. I could...You know, honestly, I'd love to read about a religious Natasha and have someone pull it off. A fic where she's like SURPRISE!21! (was that ever resolved? suddenly she just like lost years off her life and was all 'eh, of course I'll still marry you, Clint!') isn't the fic for it. Because that required some thought beyond 'oooh, what hits our kinks!'

(I have no objection to narrative kinks in fic. I object when no one admits what they are, and goes all THIS IS TOTES DEEP AND MEANINGFUL AND AMAZINGLY WRITTEN.

Seriously, you don't mix up 1st-person POV with 3rd-person POV without italics and then claim it's the best thing you've written.)

So, by my count, there are at least four of us out there (I'm the anon who mentioned the fic in the first place; the 'thank fuck' anon is not me, though I agree with the sentiment).

It's almost enough to make me wish that this weren't anon so we could form a support group. Alas, my fears of being ostracized from Clintasha fandom are too great - I get the feeling those two authors are the type to set their minions afield if anyone says anything negative about them.

But seriously, who the writes shit like that?

The 'thank fuck' anon speaking. Yup. You're right. You wouldn't even have time to say "ostracized" bc the fic is, like, the most popular, must read thing in the fandom. I can't even, because it's like people don't see how bad it is.

Who writes like that? I think it has something to do with kinks as one of us here mentioned. This is id!fic, typical example, authors writing out their kinks and fanpoodles cheering them on mindlessly. Also they happen to be among most prominent authors of the pairing. No idea how they managed that.

There is at least five - a friend of mine hates it, too. A support group would be AMAZE, but, alas, we are all little annoymice; and yes the cats would come out to play, because hell yeah I get the same feeling re: the authors.

But seriously, who the writes shit like that?

The fuck if I know. They BROKE Natasha. They warped Clint until I'm convinced that he 'came back wrong' and SHIELD is going to put a hit on him (if you tell me SHIELD would let someone run around BUTCHERING people with his level of classification? yeah, we've got different SHIELDs). But Natasha? They broke her. That powerful, confident, fierce, cruel, professional, fucking BRILLIANT spy in canon?

They broke her. There is no coming back from what they did to her. They broke her, and took away all of her darkness - her ability to kill, her natural talent for it - and replaced it with a series of mental breakdowns. They aged her down, and made a fetish out of her author-inflicted youth. But oh, it's okay, she can be all nurturing and shit and look after the rescued Red Room girls (who...conveniently appeared in the last chapter with no build-up, and whom Natasha found ALL OFF-SCREEN because the authors couldn't possibly show her being awesome in fic, nope). And it was all for Clint and Steve's fucking manpain.

I hate that fic.

Oh let's talk about what they did to Steve too. Because he was there to be a cause for Clint's incredible, toxic, horrible jealousy (which transformed him from an adult human into... something that makes me shudder). And Steve was just a convenient wheel to get them there. Just.

AYRT:

I skipped most of Steve, because when they tossed him and he fell in love with Natasha because she was LEADING HIM ON BY BEING FRIENDS, THAT SLUT and all of the commenters and author's replies were all 'aw, poor steve, nat you stupid girl', I couldn't. I couldn't.

Steve? God, at the point they brought him in fic, the man is maybe a month into the idea of never seeing Peggy, or his friends, or his WORLD again. Falling in love with Natasha? Not going to happen.

And then, later, leaving the obviously fragile Natasha ALONE with the MAN SHE LEFT who has just BROKEN INTO HER APARTMENT AND IS WAITING THERE?

Like.

Hell.

Was that Steve "I don't like bullies" Rogers.

Steve "I don't like bullies" Rogers would have kicked Clint's butt in that situation, but we can't have that, can we?
