The longest functioning couple is Sollux and Feferi iirc. Sollux is so boring though, and it's hard to be invested in those two when they barely show up imo. Still, I was all, "no no no, huss. let me have this ONE canon (rose/kanaya). just this one ;_;" when I totally thought they were gonna break up.

lol I forgot about Sollux and Feferi. I guess I wasn't counting them because they were dead. And Feferi is with Nepeta now I mean come on. That's headcanon but it's headcanon I'm sticking to.

I was afraid they'd break up too and I'm really glad they didn't. Maybe for more personal reasons than what I said in the secret, too. :\

I may or may not have got a comission of this.

There were also people whining that Rosemary should have broken up but got special treatment either because of some sort of lesbian favoritism or because they're a popular ship. (And I'm like, lol if Hussie was going by what was popular, Dave and John would have had their perfect gay wedding fucking years ago.) As opposed to realizing that not every couple breaks up, and this happened to be one that didn't. And also it makes sense given Kanaya's character.

i really hate the "hussie doesn't have the guts" arguments when it comes to rosemary, and i realize a lot of actual queer women don't like it because it's a pretty stereotypical, safe lipstick lesbian setup

but that doesn't mean he's not breaking it up for brownie points or fanboy fap fodder and wow there has been nothing to even indicate anything close to that

They haven't sunk yet, have they? Not that I'm holding out much hope for them given Slick's amazing social skills, but most of the sinking ships are teenagers.

Non-teenage ships I can think of... well, Dad and Mom, which was going fine until they died. Signless and Disciple, which was going fine until he died. Mindfang and Dualscar.... yeah, that one crashed and burned.

Yeah, I agree with this. I don't think the outlook is bleak, teenagers are just dumb and hormonal and get together and break up all the time. And it's not necessarily anyone's fault, either; they're at an age when they're all growing and changing very rapidly, which was a point that Hussie made pretty explicitly in his troll romance rundown.

I'm still gunning for Karkat and Terezi to get back together though.

I think a lot of it has to do with the fact these are teenagers. Some of the relationships started when they were roughly 13. Teenagers can kind of be idiots about relationships and aren't always in a place where they can work through issues like an older couple (in theory) could. Plus a few of the relationships are interspecies and there are issues with culture clash.

It sucks on the shipping side of things, but you know what given that some of the audience is in their early and late teens, I like that Hussie isn't doing the whole 'teenagers in love will always be together' trope (I love you Rowling but really?).

Oh yeah, I like that too. I just think that SOME couples would be able to work those issues out. Even if they're young and have cultural differences. I mean, Rose and Kanaya are having trouble right now, and they're 16 and it's all a huge mess, but that doesn't mean they have to be doomed forever. I love the fact that Kanaya isn't dumping her and isn't enabling her, either.

I'd ship it regardless. What I'm trying to say is just that I like the way Hussie is handling that, I guess.

Plus we all know that Roxy is going to stage an intervention and start the Medium's equivalent of Alcoholics Anonymous with Rose and Terezi as her first support group, so I think everything will work out alright.

And it might be just my own experience with substance abuse and relationships talking, but I honestly think Kanaya should dump her, or at least tell her, "I can't be with you until/unless you kick the addiction." For her own sake if nothing else, because IME trying to be there for a substance abuser is absolutely brutal and never ends well.

(And honestly, I've been kind of side-eying Hussie with the most recent updates. Rose, Roxy, Terezi...what's this thing he's got for taking well-developed female characters and making them sink into addiction? Come on, Hussie, you've had some great female characterization...please, don't blow it now....)

Roxy's out of it, though, apart from the Trickster-induced relapse. Terezi's having an identity crisis. Rose... Rose needs to stop drinking.

I've split up with her as my favorite character at least until she sobers up. We can talk then.

This whole thing with Kanaya is just killing me, because she'd expressed interest in moving past that whole "trying to be there for/being attracted to dangerous self-destructive people" thing and here she fucking is again, playing caretaker for Rose while she drinks herself into a stupor.

Kanaya, baby, I know you love her but you really need to cut your losses already.

While I like that Homestuck isn't doing the "teenage relationships are twoo wuv 5ever" thing, halfway through Act 6 I started getting really tired of the epic post-apocalyptic sci-fi adventure story I'd gotten invested in for the past 5 acts constantly being interrupted to focus on teen relationship drama.

I want Rose and Kanaya to stay together. Rose's recent drop into alcoholism is a something she can get past (especially once they meet Roxy, and Rose has got someone to help her that's been there).
