The latin name for the fossa is Cryptoprocta ferox
Fossa's are only found in Madagascar
The fossa is the largest mammalian carnivore in Madagasacar
The fossa is currently status is "vulnerable" due to it being widely spread, yet rare in individual regions
They can live for up to 15 years
It's tail can be up to half it's length

Madagascar has the most interesting animals. I wish I could go there and study some of them. These are adorable <3

I love these guys! They're like a fantastic mix between a mountain lion and a weasel.

Fossas are adorable! As an anon said earlier, they're like a mix of lions and weasels. I never imagined such a combination before.

I just wanted to say: thank you for all these pics that you do. Every time I see 'cuteanimalpics' in the headers here now, I automatically smile. :)

I'm loving the facts, too, even if it is very sad to hear all these wonderful animals are endangered. :(

An anon commented a bit ago that they were surprised at how small some spiders really are, and it's easy to forget, especially when I'm looking for the pictures that best show a spider's cuteness, and those tend to only exist once you're super zoomed into them, and the idea of size gets all distorted! So then, the other day, when I found a cute little jumping spider of my own, I decided to try and hold it, and take some pics. You can't see the spider all that well, it was just my camera phone, but I hope you can see how big it is, compared to my hand!

(Though, to be fair, I don't know how old he or she is.) :)
