And I think she was amazing and awesome but I keep running into people who are all "OMG DONNA WAS THE WUUURST" and I'm just assuming that the casual viewers actually all hated Donna and that's why they haven't had a strictly platonic companion ever since her.

My mother is a "casual" fan (I'm not so much) and she liked Donna.

My opinion? Donna's first appearance (season 2 xmas special) she was rather irritating. The season she was a regular though, that was a great season. I was actually relieved to have a companion who wasn't romantically interested in the Doctor.
