I don't want to give you a half-assed reply myself, so I went to re-read that scene and gotta say it's not as romantic as people make it out to be.
Ok, now that I don't have interruptions, I'm just gonna say that, in her case, I'd say blame the author rather than the character. After SS arc, I feel like Kubo is trying to make her a love martyr, and he's doing a terrible job at it.
eta: I should probably rephrase the "love martyr" thing. I'm fine with her having a crush on Ichigo, but I loathe the thought that her whole personality has been revolving around her crush on him as of late. Where is the bubbly girl that would notice things? Or the one that was fighting in SS to save a friend? Tite has been lousy not only at developing her, but also at developing the main cast.
