Creepy/Haunting Music

(Anonymous) 2013-04-21 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
So anyone have any creepy music recs for me? And by creepy I mean... well, creepy. Especially fairy-tale creepy, sort of like Sarah Jessica Paker's "Come Little Children" and Metallica's "Enter Sandman".

Other examples:
"Counting Bodies Like Sheep to the Rhythm of the War Drums" - A Perfect Circle
"97' Bonnie & Clyde" by Tori Amos
"The Small Hands of Children" by Marilyn Manson
"Animal" by Against Me
"Trigger Happy Jack" by Poe
"Part of Me" by Tool
"Little Girls" by Jarboe & Kris Force

etc? Songs that make you shudder, basically. I'm especially fond of songs inspired by legends/folklore/fairytales, etc. Like "Mordred's Lullaby" by Heather Dale.

Also the BioShock games.

"Years Ago"/"Steven" by Alice Cooper.

The video is kinda cheesy; just minimize the window and listen to the song(s)...

"The Hazards of Love 3" by The Decemberists - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R12mOhJ5d-0 (the context for this song can be found in an earlier song in the album, "The Rake's Song" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k6iREwipd_o)

The Decemberists might have a few other songs that would fit the bill, too, but I can't which ones right now.

Loreena McKenitt, The Lady of Shalott

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ttv0ljOiPSs

It's not really creepy, but it does fit the folklore theme...

Lana del Rey, Off to the Races. The sing-song little girl voice she makes creeps me out but I love it.

Emilie Simon - Desert

Not very "fairy-tale," but if you like creepy or ominous music, check out The Paper Chase!

The House is Alive and the House is Hungry
This is Only a Test
A Little Place Called Trust
Said the Spider to the Fly

I think they can be kind of an acquired taste. (Well, it took ME a while to figure out what I thought of them.) And Someday this Could All be Yours and God Bless Your Black Heart are better/creepier when you listen to the whole album straight through.

Keep the Streets Empty for Me - Fever Ray, mostly just her voice, I don't remember what it says because I don't usually listen to it

And You Shall Know No Other God But Me - Thea Gilmore, I really just find this song cool, to be honest, but it has a definite creepy edge

If you do listen to the lyrics of Keep The Streets Empty For Me, it adds several extra layers of creep onto an already creepy song.

Seriously I can't figure out if that song is about Lovecraftian horrors, child abuse/incest, shapeshifters, or humans fucking up nature. And these are just a few of the interpretations.

This one time I found a song labelled "Unknown Artist - Unknown" that was the single creepiest song I had ever heard. It was pretty amazing and the fact I had no idea where it came from only amped up the adrenaline I got while listening to it.

I opened the properties and followed back the link to where I downloaded it. And realized my computer had somehow distorted an Aerosmith song (still no idea which one) so incredibly bad it made it into an entirely different, amazingly demonically distorted song.

I don't have it anymore. :( My brother murdered that laptop. I think its death throes are what messed up the song in the first place.

Drakengard! Creepy music from a creepy game!

(Anonymous) 2013-04-22 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
The music from Drakengard. (I hear that it's classical music that was tampered with?) The tracks get progressively more messed up as the plot advances.

Not sure about the "fairytale" bit, but I'd recommend the music from the Planescape: Torment game. And some songs by the Smashing Pumpkins, especially "Glass and the Ghost Children".

Maybe some Tristania?

Or for more straight-up horror, try the Luna Game soundtrack!

(warning: it's from a creepypasta. proceed with caution!)

Not really fairy-tale, and I can't provide any links, but Brian Eno has done some creepy-ass shit. Try "Shadow," or if you want something with lyrics, "Bonebomb," which gets more unsettling with every playthrough. Also, his Music For Airports album isn't supposed to be scary but I always found it a litttle unnerving somehow.
