Terrible sense of humor.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-22 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
I have a terrible sense of humor. Or an awesome one, depending on your perspective. Anyway, I can find anything funny. Anything. Not to say that I don't take lots of things seriously, because I do, but that I'm the kind of person who thinks that put in a certain way almost anything can be hilarious.

In other words, I'm the girl stifling their laughter after someone just said a very crude, inappropriate, and offensive-to-most-people joke.

Sometimes I feel bad about this, and sometimes I find that I just don't care. Today's one of those days where I'm feeling a little bit like a bad person, though, because I just finished cracking up over a joke about disabled people and prostitutes and was lectured about it.

(I still find it hilarious, though).

Oh, well.

Anyone else like this?

What was the joke?

I don't know if you want my opinion... today some girl asked me what would have happened if Jesus had been aborted and I said "We would have saved him some time?" and then laughed at my own joke. I was the only one amused. :(

So... if you aren't using your humor to hurt other people I think you're fine. A lot of people use humor to cope with awful concepts and experiences and that's okay.

Now I think I'm going to watch some Always Sunny In Philadelphia while I make dinner. Thanks anon!

Oh man, as a Christian I feel a little bad for laughing at that.

OP.

MTE. But that's the thing. I'm Catholic but I'm definitely the kind of person who'd crack up over an offensive Jesus comment (might feel bad for laughing about it, but I'm still going to find it hilarious whether or not I feel bad).

The most important thing about humor is: know your audience.

I like to think it's not so much a terrible sense of humor as telling jokes to the wrong audience.

This. My partner and I have a similar sense of humor but we only know one other person with one like ours. It's great when the three of us get together (and we've been told we're entertaining to watch joke around together) but usually my partner and I can only joke with each other.

Tangent Story

(Anonymous) 2013-04-22 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
I was checking my twitter feed while waiting in a checkout lane on Monday and hadn't heard about the marathon bombing yet. Stephen Fry tweeted something like "What is happening in Boston today? It sounds dreadful." I thought he was talking about the marathon and I cracked up laughing for about 30 seconds. It was almost a minute before I found out about the bombings and realized that must have been what he was talking about. There were a lot of people around me and I'm pretty sure at least one person thought I was laughing at the news of the bombings.

That's like something out of a sitcom it's so beautifully awkward.

I know that feel, bro.

I went to a improv night shortly after the poor mentally handicapped dude was tazed to death by the police at YVR, and the troupe did an interpretive dance of the whole debacle. I howled with laughter the whole time, eyes watering and everything, until the friend I went with nudged me, and I looked up, and... I was the only person in the whole crowd of several hundred people who was even laughing at all.

Not OP.

This is me. A few years ago this old man in one of those power-wheel wheelchair thingies tipped over at the edge of the sidewalk and fell into the street, chair and all.

The moment he was up and assuring everyone that he was fine, I started HOWLING. I could not stop. I was laughing so hard I was crying, and everyone around me was giving me serious side-eyes.

My best friend had to drag me off before someone approached me (I live in the city, so that's always possible).

I feel bad sometimes that I find stuff like this hilarious, but eh, what can I do?
