To be fair, River also does tease him to his face. But that just makes her manipulative long-suffering indulgent behavior even stupider. So...she thinks he can't handle little things like seeing people age and needs to be indulged and shielded from reality, but she makes fun of him openly for other stuff? That just makes her look like she doesn't have any respect for him or trust in his basic intelligence at all, but likes to take potshots at him anyway.
