Sarah Jane left for some of the same reasons. She was a lot more low-key about it, but there was definitely an element of that in her little speech when she was telling the Doctor she wanted to leave.

I don't think Sarah Jane was really intending to leave then, though. She was fed up with it at the moment and then started bluffing at him because she was pissed that he was ignoring her, but she changed her mind and didn't want to leave when the Doctor said she had to.

I got the impression the writers put in her complaints to soften her departure -- to show that she was starting to get tired of it anyway and therefore it wasn't all that bad for her that the Doctor had to leave her on Earth.
