No clue, same thing happened when the lord of the rings movies came out in the early 2000's maybe its a movie fandom thing, because I've been seeing it a lot after the Avengers movie too.

I'm curious about the cliques. I didn't know this fandom/ship was still active enough to have "cliques." I know the fandom is still decently active, but I've never immersed myself in it far enough to ever see evidence of cliques.

It's still relatively popular. It just doesn't seem so because of how insane it was in the hayday. It would still be considered a pretty big ship based on fic/fan works produced. Though I find mot people still listing it as their main OTP are teen tumblr-ites.

Otherwise pretty much all fic is written solely for lj fests.

HP fandom's way different from when I was in it, but from my experience every ship there had its inner circles. Doesn't surprise me to hear that nothing's changed, but rest assured you'll find friends in fandom. Real ones.

This has got to be some kind of lame attempt at trolling. Nobody that new to fandom in general would actually sound that...bored by it. They'd know that a fandom as big as HP would have cliques.

Yeah. I'm not even sure there are cliques as such. I've seen groups of people who see fandon differently, but everybody respects each other and are open to participate in different fesst, or not do so without making a fuss of it. HP is one of the friendliest fandons I've been part of. Though I'm not quite sure how was in the past. I'm not that old as to say "it used to be huge". I think it's pretty big right now. I can imagine it was way bigger though.
