A few of their more popular songs have grown on me over the years after hearing them everywhere, but yeah, for the most part their songs just sound like noise to me. I don't get the hype.
ext_81845: "So indie, I saw a band by myself in an underground room, then killed them so I'd be the only one who knew about them." (INDIE AND OBSCURE)

I like Daft Punk but they are kind of like, THE BEATLES of house music. Like, they're good, but they are all that those who are unfamiliar with house or electronica of any kind will listen to, to the point that I kind of resent them. So yeah, I get this secret
ext_81845: a pile of audio cassette tapes (musics)

If you like Daft Punk, you'll probably like Grum.

I'll be honest, I only know them from Interstella 5555 and Tron: Legacy. I quite enjoyed those, mind.

I just tend to listen to a broad spectrum of music, but not really take note of too much. I couldn't define the genre of a piece of music if you paid me.

I suspect this is OT, but yeah. They're pretty damn good , but I only noted them down because of the movies.

I absolutely love them but it's ok, OP, different strokes for different folks.

I get you.

For some reason I always feel like a lot of their songs are meant to go with something, which is why I really enjoyed Interstella 555. But outside of that, I do think they end up kind of overrated.

They're one of those bands that really depends on the frame of mind I'm in.

Well, not that you'd necessarily have the same change of mind, but back when I had a lot more opinions about electronic music I thought they were sooo overrated, I couldn't stand "One More Time" and thought everything else I heard was just okay...and they have since become one of my favorite artists now that I've listened to more stuff. And the T:L soundtrack was a lot of fun.

daft punk is great. their stuff is kinda "repetitive" i guess but that's not objectively bad, it's just a preference. they've been really influential in the house genre, particularly in france, so most people who are into that kind of music respect them - even if their style isn't their personal cup of tea.

they are still pretty special right now. their music evolves just as the music around them does, so they're still current and popular. they work with a lot of people so their influence is still everywhere.

if it makes you feel any better my fiance and i were intrigued enough to see a lazer light show for their music and we both fell asleep (the muse one still reigns supreme)
