Actually, on this specific soundtrack at least two of the songs were written specifically for Twilight. It increased in frequency as the movies got bigger and the fandom got louder.

Not that they're not awesome songs, or that they can't be taken out of context, just that they were written for the movie.

"White Demon Love Song" definitely was, "Meet Me on the Equinox" was, and I think "Satellite Heart" was too, although I'm not sure.
